Welcome to the "More Smiles Around Yarmouth" website.

July 2008 - Regrettably, Question 6 was not approved on May 6th.  Under Massachusetts law this means that two years must pass before fluoridation can be considered again, at least two more years of unnecessary disease, pain, and expense being experienced in town.  This website will continue to provide updated information as it becomes available on oral health status and oral health developments here in town and on the rest of the Cape as well.  Donations, small and large, are still welcome.  Thank you for your continued interest and support!

"More Smiles Around Yarmouth" is about promoting good dental health, and making cavities and tooth loss a thing of the past in town, through good oral hygiene practices, regular professional dental care including cleanings and sealants, and especially through community water fluoridation, which was Question 6 on the May 6th ballot.

Please check in frequently for updates, as this site is developing and evolving, but one thing that will not change is the indisputable and tremendous public health benefit that comes from community water fluoridation.  Already 139  communities in Massachusetts, many for over 50 years now, and nearly 4 million people statewide, from children, to their parents, to their grand- parents, have the health and economic benefits of fluoridation.  Nationwide, more than 170 million people are smiling because of it.

Voting "Yes on Question 6" meant:

  • Preventing cavities in kids by up to 40-60%, and adults by up to 30%.

  • $1 for fluoridation prevents up to $38 in dental treatment costs.

  • Kids are in school learning, rather than in the dentist's chair to treat decay, pain, and infection.

  • People of all ages keep their teeth and smiles longer.

Together with other good oral health practices like sealants and regular brushing, tooth decay can become a thing of the past in Yarmouth.
